The driver will alternate between F2 races and McLaren tests in F1

On Wednesday morning, Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | Banco BMG | MRV | CCR | CEMIG | GASMIG | Usiminas | Americanet) announced that he will compete for the French team DAMS for the 2019 season of the F2 World Championship.

Sérgio, who in 2017 competed for the discrete MP Motorsport team (HOL), in 2018 participated in the Championship with the traditional English team Carlin. In a year of the debut of new cars, motors and electronics the driver managed to dribble several problems, among them the breaking his wrist in the qualifying session in Monaco and with eight podiums and 164 points finished the season in the sixth position.

Founded in 1988 the team is based in the city of Le Mans, one of the most traditional cradles of European motorsport. DAMS has a great history in the old GP2 Series. Led by Francois Sicard, the team won the Championship title in 2014, with Jolyon Palmer; 2012, with Davide Valsecchi and 2011, with Romain Grosjean. The team has a great characteristic of offering the last step in the formation of drivers. From the 2018 F1 grid three drivers passed through DAMS cars – Grosjean, Kevin Magnussen, and Pierre Gasly.

“We were close to closing a deal with DAMS for 2018, but it did not work out. DAMS recently contacted me again and Mr. François invited me to know the team headquarters. I was really impressed by the level of professionalism, especially if we take into account that F2 is still a training category. They have a history of many victories and titles in the category and after analyzing the various proposals we had for next year, I think we have made the best choice to fight for the title, “said the 20-year-old.

In the 2018 season of the F2 World Championship, DAMS counted with the drivers Alexander Albon (TAI) who finished third in the Championship and will compete in the F1 World Championship in 2019 with the team Toro Rosso. In addition, he competed with the French team Nicholas Latiffi (CAN), who will continue in F2 as Sette’s teammate.

THE WORK IN THE NEW HOME ALREADY BEGUN

After the race ended last Sunday Sérgio Sette remained in Abu-Dhabi. In the driver’s agenda this week, there were some commitments with DAMS that ranged from the fabrication of his new driver’s seat (tailored-made), as well as the introduction to the members and engineers of the new team.

As from Thursday (29), until next Saturday (1st), Formula 2 will perform post-season tests in this same circuit of Yas Marina. Yesterday and today Sérgio analyzed the data of the cars from the last weekend and, tomorrow will go to the track already fully integrated with the new team.

“My professional focus in 2019 will be completely to the F2. I am transferring myself to another victorious team and I will do my best to win the title. The work I will do as a test driver at McLaren will further improve my personal performance. I am sure we will be able to celebrate excellent results next year, “concluded the young Brazilian.
