The driver arrived third on Sunday and is now the fifth in the Championship

Today, Sunday,  the sixth round of the F2 World Championship ended. The 11th and 12th stages of the year took place at the Red Bull Ring Circuit in Spielberg, Austria and witnessed the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | Banco BMG | MRV | CCR | GASMIG | Usiminas) return to the podium with a third-place finish having reached sixth in the race on Saturday.

Sérgio’s weekend began cheerfully when he posted the fourth time in the free practice on Friday. With a car that proved to be well-balanced, he was still excited for the qualifying session that was held hours later. In this qualifying session, with the time of 1m13s823 he secured the third position, opening the second row of the grid.

Feeling good, Sette lined up his car for the first race of the weekend. Due to the technical problems seen in the clutch of several cars during the season, the race will have a rolling start behind the safety car, with the cars in a single file. Sérgio remained in third place and followed the first two when, on the fourth lap, the safety-car came in and the cars were bunched up. At this point, most of the cars went for the mandatory pit-stop. Sérgio, really close to his teammate, was told by the team to enter the pits together, and with that, he was forced to wait. To top it all, there was a problem in replacing the left front wheel which made him lose even more time. With this, the # 18 car returned to the track only in the tenth position. It did not take long for the restart, and with that, Sette positioned himself to seek recovery. Still with many laps to the end of the race he managed to recover four positions in a mix of boldness and technique to spare the tyres.

The result of yesterday’s race allowed Sergio to finish this Sunday, again, in third. After a good start the Brazilian kept in the third place, but, on the third lap, was surpassed by a competitor, falling to the fourth position. As it is always the case with Sunday races, where the pit stop is not mandatory, the great challenge of the race is managing the tyre wear in a precise way. Sette was able to very intelligently handle the attack of the Italian driver Antonio Fuoco for several laps while in front of him he kept the Japanese Tadazuki Makino in the DRS zone, that is, allowing him to open the adjustable wing of the car. Thus, with nine laps to the end of the race, he managed to get very close and, in an intelligent maneuver, take the third place. With a good car in his hands, Sérgio then pursued the second place, he managed to reduce the gap, but in the last three laps he could no longer get any closer and received the final flag in third.

“I’m happy with the result we got here over the weekend. Unfortunately, in yesterday’s race, our strategy was completely compromised by the safety car and also with a problem in my pit-stop. I tried my best and, with the sixth position, I started in third today. In today’s race, in turn, I managed to managed to control my tyre wear in a race where I had to defend my position a lot. Halfway through the race, as I had a very good car, I was able to get back to the third place and in the last few laps, I did not have time to get to the second place. We scored important points for the Championship and we are going to England very confident next week, “said the driver.
