Carlin’s Brazilian driver came in third on Sunday in the 16th stage of the Championship

The eighth round of the F2 World Championship ended on Sunday. The races, which took place at the Hungaroring Autodrome in Hungary, corresponded to the 15th and 16th stages of the World Championship and had the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | Banco BMG | MRV | CCR | CEMIG | GASMIG | Usiminas) on the podium in the third place.
Sette, who got his first pole position in the F2 on Friday, found a completely different track situation on Saturday. After a heavy rain during the F1 classification, the track got very wet for the F2 race. With the privilege of starting in the first place, Sérgio had a very quiet start and reassured himself in the lead, and kept on. At the beginning of the race, taking advantage of the clean lane in front of him, Carlin’s car # 18 opened up a lead of about three seconds. As the laps went by the track was drying up and, with that, the tyres of Sergio’s car did not give him a good grip. He fell to the eighth position when, in the middle of the race, pitted and changed the tyers. Then his car started to have better performance. With fast laps Sette started to gain positions and, three laps to the end, was pressing Lando Norris for the second place. In a fierce dispute with Antonio Fuoco, Sergio ended up touching Fuoco’s car. The Brazilian crossed the finish line in third, but he was penalized for having spun Fuoco, and dropped down to seventh place.

The result on Saturday allowed Sérgio to start from the second position this Sunday when the sun returned to shine in the region of Budapest. After a conservative start, Sergio fell to fourth place. After three laps, however, he jumped to the third place. In the first part of the race, Sette Camara struggled to withstand the attacks of Artem Markelov. With a good pace and sparing the tyres as much as possible, Sérgio remained ahead of the Russian and in the second half of the race, he was able to relax a bit. In the last few laps Norris still tried an approach, but, Sette had a technical reserve, returned to accelerate strong, and managed to secure his fifth podium of the season.

“I can’t really say I’m happy. The weekend started spectacularly for me on the pole. Yesterday, in a race completely divided into two parts, I ended up making small mistakes that ended up costing me the chance to come in second. Today, on the other hand, I was able to defend myself from Markelov’s attacks at the start of the race and after that, I created my own pace, which allowed me to save my tyres a little and secure another podium. The 20 points that I have added for the Championship are good and now we have to prepare well for the rest of the season and, with that, try to go up in the standings in the eight remaining races”, the driver analyzed in a mature way.
