The Brazilian driver came in second in the race on Saturday and scored again on Sunday

This Sunday (24) the fifth round of the F2 World Championship ended. The French Grand Prix, which took place at the Paul Ricard Circuit, was marked by the presence of the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | Banco BMG | MRV | CCR | GASMIG | Usiminas) on the podium for the ninth stage of the Championship.

After the Monaco GP, when he injured his right wrist after an accident, Sérgio’s main objective was to ensure that he was well and, above all, competitive. That way, with the support of the competent Carlin team, the driver did not need much time to show his potential and to secure the fourth place in the qualifying session held late on Friday afternoon.

Excited with the second row of the starting grid, Sérgio went to the track with the goal of winning a place on the podium. However, to make things a bit more challenging, the climatic conditions were very bad. A thin rain fell on parts of the circuit, and on others the track was dry. So, with slick tyres, Sergio made an exceptional start and jumped to second place. Driving with extreme technique and a lot of speed the driver, lap after lap, slowly opened up an advantage against his competitors. Sette simply did not make any mistake during the 30 laps and, after a perfect pit stop from the Carlin team, he returned to the track in the second place and carried on in this position up to the final flag. The Englishman George Russel won the race.

According to the regulations, the top eight finishers of Saturday’s race have their positions reversed for Sunday’s start. Thus, Sette Câmara left in seventh place on Sunday. After a conservative start, the driver remained in seventh place. Without the mandatory pit stop, Sunday’s race is very strategic and, with it, the tyre wear makes all the difference. Sergio, aware of the equipment in his hands, had a rational race. In the first part, he spared his equipment keeping in seventh place. In the second part of the race he tried to attack Antonio Fuoco, who was ahead of him, but the performance of the two cars was very close. In the last laps, Sérgio still managed to gain a position finishing the race in the sixth place.

“I’m really happy with the weekend we had here in France. This was the first of three straight weekend races and for me, coming back from a serious injury, getting to the podium right away was very rewarding. Yesterday’s race was very complicated, there were sections of the track that were quite wet and others dry. Driving in those conditions was a really big challenge. The car was very good and, with extreme concentration, I managed to reach the second position. Today the race was more complicated, the car did not have the same performance as yesterday and, having to spare the tyres, I was in a situation where I had to prioritize finishing the race in the scoring zone. I got 22 points for the Championship, I climbed one position on the table and, above all, I’m very confident for the next races, “he said.
