This Wednesday and Thursday, the Brazilian driver participated in his first races in the category
After nine months away from official competitions this Wednesday and Thursday (August 5th and 6th), Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara returned to an official race. Faced with one of the biggest challenges of his career, Sergio made his debut in the FE World Championship in the cockpit of # 6 car of the North American team GEOX Dragon.
Coming from three very important seasons in the F2, Sette Câmara came to a completely new universe and, of course, offered him, above all, a period of valuable learning. Despite having excelled in the rookie training in the electric car category, held in March, in Turkey, Sérgio had never competed in an official race which, therefore, demanded him a long period of previous preparation activities and also a lot of time in the simulator.
“The FE car is completely different from anything I’ve ever driven in my life. During a lap, in a street circuit and with a much shorter length than in the race tracks, the driver has to do at least three times more things than in the F2. There are different adjustments, especially with regard to the car’s energy consumption. I studied a lot and practiced in the team simulator, but certainly, what I experienced in these two days here on the track was much more intense ”, he commented.
As announced by the organizers, the final six rounds of the FE season would be held in Berlin, Germany. Every two races the circuit would be changed and with that, in just nine days the 2020 champion would be known.
LOTS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST RACES
As traditionally happens in FE disputes, all one-stage programming takes place on the same day. Thus, this Wednesday (5th) the disputes of the sixth stage of the Championship took place and, today – Thursday (6th) the activities of the seventh stage.
In yesterday’s activities Sergio found some difficulty adapting to the car and the circuit, however, that did not stop him from looking for his best on the track. Even though he did not get good marks in the classification, the driver tried to be fast and steady in the race and managed to finish the race without any incident.
This Thursday, with more mileage with the car and after the normal anxiety of the debut, the driver showed his potential by registering the seventh best time in the free practice session. In the classification, after some mistakes with a car, the driver was unable to establish the same pace of the training and had to settle for the 20th position on the grid. In the race, which took place four hours later, the driver managed to stay in his position at the start. Wrapped up in fights with much more experienced drivers, he managed to impose a good pace, fought for positions and, at the end of the race, received the flag in 17th place.
“We can take a lot of positive things after the first two days of racing here in Berlin. Today we have taken a big step forward in relation to what we did yesterday. I managed to finish the training in seventh and, in all the power conditions of the car, I was always among the 10 fastest. In my ideal lap of the classification, unfortunately, it was very difficult to keep the car on the ideal track. I tried to get the most out of the car and, unfortunately, I made some mistakes. We had the pace to be certainly between 10th and 15th, but I ended up starting at 20th. In the race I managed to manage energy consumption better and won some positions. I am happy with all the experience I managed to acquire and I hope we can continue to evolve in the next four races ”, concluded the driver.
