The Brazilian Sette Câmara had a weekend of difficulties with car adjustments

This Sunday (16)  the sixth double round of the F2 World Championship ended. The races took place at the traditional Silverstone Racetrack in England where the 20 drivers had activities from Thursday until today.

Sérgio Sette Câmara (ACER | CCR | SANEPAV | TAESA | CEMIG | BELL) has been learning a lot this year and he came to this round very excited after the increasing results achieved in the Azerbaijan races, the fourth round and in Austria, the fifth round.

In that sense, the Dutch team MP Motorsport prepared the car  # 14 in the best possible way and, together with Sérgio and the engineers, prepared the best strategy for the activities of the weekend.

In the free practice Sergio made the ninth time and, on Friday morning, during the qualifying sessions, he was able to do an even better lap that gave him the ninth position on the grid for the first race.

The first race was still on Saturday. In spite of the European summer period, the temperature was very low which made the track very little adherent, making it more difficult for the drivers. Starting with soft tires, the team’s strategy made Sergio stop in the seventh lap. Most of his direct competitors made the pit stop on the sixth lap and, in a long track such as Silverstone, that one lap with the very degraded tires ended up placing the Brazilian away from the squad in front of him. When he returned to the track, he practically made a solitary race and received the flag in the 13th position.

On Sunday’s race, starting from the seventh row, Sergio had a recovery race in mind. After the start he set a strong pace and was already seeking to gain positions. He made beautiful overtakes and was already in ninth place when, due to an incident on the track, the Safety-car came in. In the restart, Sérgio tried to overtake the car in the ninth place when, in the chicane, he ended up colliding with another competitor and going off track. With that he lost several positions all the way to the end of the squad. Sette still remained on the track, but finished the race only in 15th place.

“Unfortunately our car was not as well as it was in Austria and Azerbaijan. So there was not much we could do, especially with regard to speed in high speed curves. The experience of a race weekend is always very valid and this knowledge will certainly be of use in the future. It was quite cold, the tires did not heat at all, and with that, the ideal grip is not achieved. We will continue to have a lot of focus and determination. We completed only the first half of the Championship here and, I’m sure, we will look for better results in the next rounds, “said the 19-year-old.

The F2 World Championship takes a week break and 14 days from now it returns to the scene in Hungary. The Hungaroring track, home to Nelson Piquet’s famous overtaking of Ayrton Senna in 1986, will host the seventh stage of the Championship between 28 and 30 July.
