The weekend marks the opening of the World Championship season

At the Bahrain International Circuit in the Middle East, the F2 World Championship will be given the green light to the opening of the 2019 season. 20 drivers and 10 teams are on the track in the city of Manama longing for victories in the main F1 feeder category.

In his official debut for the French team DAMS, the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | BMG | MRV | CCR | CBMM | CEMIG | GASMIG | COPASA) worked hard in the first two months of the year, as well as in the pre-season held in February and the first week of this month in Spain.

Taking turns between working with DAMS and testing with the F1 McLaren team simulator, Sérgio believes he is well-prepared for this season. Last season he was in the podium several times and finished the season in season in sixth place, now, for his third season in the F2, Sergio is craving for the title.

“I’m on a new team, with competent and very professional people. I can not deny that I am also more mature and more at ease to face the challenges of one of the most competitive categories of motorsport in the world. I like to race here in Bahrain. The track is cool, fast and has several overtaking points. I believe that the main secret of the weekend will be tyre wear. The asphalt here is extremely abrasive, and whoever manages to spare his equipment better, especially in Sunday’s race, will have a great advantage, “explained the 20-year-old.

THE WEEKEND BEGAN WITH THE BEST TIME

Just like last season, F2 weekend consists of a free practice, a qualifying session, a one-hour race and a 45-minute race. The pole-position gets four extra points and the drivers that have the best laps one point each.

In the free practice this morning, when anxiety took over everyone, Sette Câmara showed that he is calm and, mainly, has a good equipment in his hands. With a mark of 1’43.66, he was the fastest in the session with a difference of three tenths for the second place, the Canadian Nicholas Latiffi, his teammate and more than half a second to the third, Swiss Ralf Boushung.
