In the kart track of La Conca in Muro Leccese, the competition will be in two weekends in a row
It started in a fairIy intense way the 2014 season of European karting. After the disputes of the Winter Cup, last week, pilots and teams followed from the region near to Venice, in Northern Italy, to the far south of that country. In a map location known by Brazilians as the “salto da bota” is installed the La Conca International Circuit in the city of Muro Leccese.
In this scenario, starting this weekend, between February 27 and March 2 and, next one, between March six and nine, will take place the WSK Champions Cup. The competition, held for the first time by the group led by businessman Luca De Donno, represents the beginning of the three annual competitions in the WSK season and will reward, at an interval of ten days, its first champion.
In the KF category, the main international karting class,the sole Brazilian pilot will be Sérgio Sette Câmara (Banco Mercantil do Brasil | CEMIG | TAESA | MBR | Tear Têxtil | Lalubema | Patrus Transportes | Milplan | ART).. After the 16th position in the Winter Cup he believes that, in these next two weeks, when the races on the same track will be held, he will be able to rank well and fight to finish the Championship in the top five.
The La Conca track is very selective. His design has 1,250 meters long by 10 meters wide. There are 10 straight line sectors, three of them of rather large extension. Permeating these spaces of re full acceleration there are 14 curves, eight of them to the right and six to the left. The weather forecast is that the temperature shall oscillate between eight and 14 degrees with the possibility of more rain on Sunday, when the specialized sites point out 57% of possibility of precipitation.
Sette Câmara will have as his first challenge to adapt to the German brand Dunlop tyres. After having competed with the Japanese Bridgestone, last week, the compounds used in the WSK are of a softer and adherent compound. This combination provides the pilot a more easier driving, but at the cost of a need to save more the equipment for the final laps of races
The programming of this round of the WSK began yesterday, with four sessions of free practice sessions. Today, the practices proceed and, at the end of the afternoon, a qualifying session will be held. On this Saturday will be disputed the qualifying sessions and, finally, on Sunday, the pre-final and Final.
“The season here in Europe already begins with three races in a row. I’m still in a period of adaptation to my new kart, but I believe I have already conditions to fight for prominent positions since our equipment had a good performance in Lonato, last week, and I am very confident. We will strongly fight for victories”, commented the 15-year old “mineiro”.
