Champions Cup Series, which will be played in two events, was opened this weekend
While the population of the whole country lives the extended holiday of Carnival the international karting had this weekend the first round of the WSK Champions Cup. The competition, which will be played in two weeks in a row at the La Conca karting track, in Muro Leccese, Italy, had this round the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara (Banco Mercantil do Brasil | CEMIG | TAESA | MBR | Tear Têxtil | Lalubema | Patrus Transportes | Milplan | ART)as one of the great highlights of the KF category -Main class of international karting.
The competition started on Thursday (27) when the free practice sessions began. Until the morning of Friday the teams could set their equipment and pilots for the qualifying session, which was held on Friday. With a very well-tuned kart Serginho surprised everyone and with the mark time of 47s103 achieved the 10th best mark of a grid that would convene riders from the five continents on the planet.
Excited about the result of his time that placed him in the Group B of the qualifiers.
Three tests were held and Serginho was great on all of them. In the first competition, AxB, he finished in the fifth place. In the BxD he got the 12th position after having been touched by one of its competitors. In the latest confrontation, BxC, with a wet track, he made a spectacular start and he jumped from the fifth position to the lead at the end of the first lap, more than a second to the other competitors. However, in the second lap, under strong pressure from the entire platoon, Sette Câmara’s kart water skidded in one of the fastest spots of the track and the pilot ended up leaving the track and abandoning the race.
Summing up of the three races, Sette Câmara got 40 points which gave him the 26th position for the starting grid in the pre-final race. On this race, after a good start, the Brazilian imposed a strong rhythm and got good recovery. There were a lot of overtakings and, in a race where he showed all his boldness he managed to reach in the sixth. However, after the race Sette Câmara was penalized for an override during the yellow flag and, as a result, he remained only in with the last position of this session which consequently left him in last place in the grid of the final.
The Final race was pretty competitive. Sette Câmara has an excellent start and, at the end of the first lap, crossed the line in the 22nd position. Well positioned in the peloton and with a fast kart he proceeded winning positions until the 15th place. When he reached this rank the rest of the group had already a good distance, but he followed with a rapid pace. On the penultimate lap, then, unfortunately, his kart engine broke. With nothing to do, he l was hit for having sharply reduced speed and he had to abandon.
“It was a weekend of strong emotions. We were able to prepare a good tuning and the kart was competitive. At the qualifying sessions I was well, I led one of the races under the rain. In the pre-final, even starting from the back, I did a great race arrived in sixth. I had everything to fight in the decision. I was penalized, I started IN THE BACK in the Final, and was again fast, but then the engine broke down. I’m disappointed by the result, of course, but quite happy that I had a competitive kart and, as a result, next week I’m sure I’m going to fight for a place on the podium”, said the 15-year pilot.
