The fifth round of the FIA Formula E World Championship will be held in Cape Town

This weekend, Cape Town, capital of South Africa, will host for the first time in its history a Formula E World Championship competition. Drivers and teams have already landed on the African continent and, on Thursday, make the last adjustments to the cars that, starting tomorrow, they will take the track for the intense schedule of the fifth stage of the season.

Coming from a very positive result in the last round of the Championship, the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara, fifth in the round of India, two weeks ago, is quite confident for the challenges of Cape Town. After having faced some problems adapting to the new brake system of the NIO333 Racing car and also to the new tires used in the series Sérgio said to be more comfortable to seek the limit of the car. “The Gen3 Formula E car became even more difficult to drive and not only me, but the vast majority of drivers had adaptation problems. Together with our team of engineers we have been evolving the car’s accuracy in order to better fit my driving style, which I also had to change to get a faster adjustment and above all to give us confidence to complete the races competitively. Other than that, we are still in search of the best solutions for the new tires that the Championship adopted. In addition to the change of supplier the rubber compound is very different. The tires are more resistant, however, has a much lower grip to the ground. The sum of these two factors requires a radical change in the style of driving,” he explained.

For the first time on the Formula-E calendar, the Cape Town track was designed on Robben Island, just outside DHL Stadium – one of the venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Lovers of the category can expect another beautiful show, like what was seen two weeks ago in Hiderabad. The Circuit has an extension of 2,927 meters with high speed characteristics. The layout has only two sinuous parts surrounded by long straights of full acceleration. These characteristics make the South African track one of the fastest of the season. Attack Mode should be activated at turn 1, and the race will last 30 laps.

“It was very important for both me and the team the result we achieved in India. We scored ten points and I really hope it will be a real turning point for the rest of the season. We are in renewed spirits and we are going for a weekend of lots of action and high speed”, concluded the driver from Belo Horizonte.
